About Bowie

Originally a small railroad stop, Bowie has grown into the largest municipality in Prince George's County, and third largest city by area in Maryland. With a perfect location in the quite suburbs of Maryland, Bowie is only a 30 minute drive to DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis. There are over 2,000 acres of parkland within Bowie, excellent public schools, and wonderful communities for any family to feel right at home.

Bowie is home to Bowie State University, a public university and the oldest historically black university in the state of Maryland. The largest employers in Bowie are Invalon (a cloud based healthcare analytics company) and Prince George's County Public Schools.

There is the City of Bowie Ice Arena for ice skating, City of Bowie Municipal Gymnasium, Bowie Playhouse for live theater productions, and over 15 different local community parks (including a walking trail along the Patuxent River) . The Bowie Boys & Girls Club also offers great recreational sports leagues for all ages.

The city hosts numerous events throughout the year including the annual Christmas tree lighting, BowieFest, 4th of July fireworks, community nature walks, events at Bowie Town Center, and other smaller events. There is a growing arts program sponsored by the city government that provides interesting cultural experiences each year.

For shopping dining, and entertainment, you can visit Bowie Town Center or the brand new Bowie Marketplace. Both are packed with great stores and restaurants for all ages. more local businesses are starting to emerge including Lima's Chicken, Chesapeake Grille & Deli, Jerry’s Seafood, and Teavana.
